Same goes to cars. I remember one time that one owner-type jeep hit our car. The driver instinctively got down to check the damage. But he suddenly went back to his jeep and simply drove away. Good thing I got his plate number. So the insurance company will be the one running after them.

My parents are eyeing Mazda CX7. I’ve reminded my mom that a car is not an investment but rather a never ending expense, with monthly maintenance, annual car insurance and of course, the daily gas. I asked her why she’d want a new vehicle when they each have a CRV. My dad drives an older CRV (2000) though. But my father is retired and my mom will retire soon too and it’s their money anyway, so I guess it’s ok for them to get another car. My mom told me they won’t buy the CX7 unless the old CRV has been sold. That I’m not sure because knowing my parents, they’re not fans of waiting. So I’m giving them a month, I bet they’ll buy it before selling the CRV.

We are now on a lookout for a college plan, this time for the coming baby. Actually, we’re flexible that the plan shouldn’t strictly be for college. It can be a life plan, as long as we can give contributions for 5-10 years and reap the rewards 17 years from now. We know there are other forms of investment, we could buy gold bullion or invest on real estate but still undecided where to invest. For now, we continue our research, hoping we find the perfect investment.

My father has expressed his desire to go to Singapore. I was a bit surprised as he hates traveling and riding the airplane. He’d rather travel by car or even a bus for hours than ride a plane. But I was not so surprised when he told me why he wanted to visit the place. He wants to buy gold coins. I smiled and suggested why not buy online instead? Unlike the old days, it has become easier now to order online. And there are agents that he can talk to more about his financial goals. Plus, he doesn’t have to ride the plane.

Well I actually planned on going even before the party as I brought some dates and prunes for my dad. And not forgetting my dad’s a collector of gold coins, we gave him a coin that my parents-in-law bought from Buckingham Palace during their London trip. My father is a coin collector, and even if this coin has no value, I know he’ll be happy to add such token to his “fun” collection. Husband gave him one too from his Poland trip.

I’d always prefer black over brown leather pumps. And I build my small collection of jewelry on white gold than on yellow gold (sometimes extends to the choice of watches).

Now I prefer to invest in gold bars or coins rather than shopping at a whim. It isn’t always like this. I used to be careless with my finances but I’ve learned my lesson. I want to invest in gold not only because of its beauty but for its potential to preserve one’s purchasing power. I know better now.

Just the other day, I saw on TV a feature on someone who found a bag of gold in a trash dump. It has changed his life. It can be compared to winning the lottery. You become an instant millionaire. If I find a gold bar in our backyard, I won’t spend money immediately. Instead, I’d invest it for our future.

Seriously, gold is one of the best forms of investment. It protects the family wealth year after year. Something one can count on during retirement. And the best time to buy is now. With reputable dealers such as United States Gold Bureau, buying has become easy, one can now order online.

If we are to buy gold this year, and continue doing so little by little every year, then we’d be confident that husband and I can travel to Europe during our retiring years. I sometimes prepare an itinerary and budget plan for out of the country trips for the family, and then present it to the husband. We can actually travel soon while we are young, but I think I’d rather invest that much money to gold or put up a small business. Gold is one way of preserving our purchasing power, it has become so easy to order online. While a small business could help augment the family budget.

I’d say we have a younger crowd in the office. I am often consulted on things such as real estate or investment products. I was asked what I think of gold bullions for starters. It could be challenging but I think if you can find a very competent hard asset agent committed to serve your investment needs, then there’s nothing to worry about.

On another note, I had another migraine attack yesterday. It was because I forgot to drink coffee earlier that morning. So while office team mates were inviting for dinner, I suggested we eat at this Chinese restaurant where I usually drink the house tea. Tea has that calming effect on me. After dinner, one suggested we buy coffee. I was given a small cup of coffee and was surprised how strong it was. I was waiting for my migraine to subside but I couldn’t work anymore. I decided to take Advil. So I’m not really sure what helped me, the tea, the strong coffee or Advil. Maybe all three as I was even able to work when I got home.

Just recently, friends have invited us to join them in a trip to Macau, plus a side trip to Hong Kong. I hesitated because one, we have gone there twice. Two, we are saving for something. Three, husband and I agreed we’ll wait for our daughter’s 7th birthday for our next trip abroad. Sounds a bit harsh huh? Hahaha. I know we really won’t be able to stick to this agreement but at least we’re trying.

Yes, I would love to come back to Macau and for the husband to finally bungee jump. I would take more photos of the amphitheatre (day and night) and of our daughter whom I wish won’t be as camera-shy anymore. I would also like to go back to Hong Kong and re-visit Ocean Park. I also plan to eat authentic Chinese food again. And I would love to buy some gold coins in the area. Since you’re in HK, why not combine the leisure trip with business? As we all know, investing in gold is one way of preserving wealth and purchasing power. Great plan yes, but I declined my friend’s invitation. Sticking with my 3 reasons.
